Rooted in Dehua’s Ceramic Legacy: A Lifelong Passion for Ceramics

Growing up in Dehua—a city with a thousand-year history of ceramic craftsmanship—Zhou Hongjie was deeply immersed in its rich ceramic culture from an early age. Influenced by this environment, he developed a profound interest in Dehua ceramics and a love for ceramic-making and firing techniques.

After graduation, he embarked on a career in ceramic creation. Over more than a decade of learning and practice, he mastered every key link of the ceramic process with exceptional skill: selecting and blending clay materials, designing vessel shapes, hand-throwing (wheel-throwing), formulating glazes, and firing techniques. This solid technical foundation laid the groundwork for his later innovations.

Innovation in Craft: Merging Porcelain with Gilding Techniques

Zhou Hongjie is known for his bold exploration and innovative spirit. He pioneered the integration of porcelain and gilding craftsmanship—a fusion that brings modern aesthetics into dialogue with classical craft elements, creating a striking visual impact. By combining unique vessel shapes with gilding techniques, he achieved a perfect balance of aesthetic appeal and cultural depth, enriching the cultural connotation of his works beyond traditional ceramic art.

Through years of dedicated creation, he has developed a series of gilded tea cup masterpieces. These works are celebrated for their diverse vessel shapes and innovative designs, winning widespread acclaim from customers and collectors alike.

His artistic excellence has been recognized with numerous top awards. In 2021, two of his representative works—Golden Cup Inscribed with Heart Sutra in Lacquer (Da Qi Xin Jing Jin Zhan) and Golden Cup with Dragon and Phoenix Motifs (Long Feng Jin Zhan)—won the Gold Award at the Beijing Exhibition of Works by Renowned Chinese Ceramic Artists, solidifying his status as a leading figure in contemporary Chinese ceramic art.
